"Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."
These two lines will be familiar to most Christians around the world, but what does it mean to pray them? When Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray, he doesn't teach them that they should simply tolerate their time on earth until they can escape to something better. He teaches that we should ask God to bring about the transformation of the world; that we should pray for a world where His love is revealed as the presence and power that underpins everything. So part of praying is asking that things – including ourselves – be brought in tune with God's will. We ask that we might, in some way, be a part of the world's transformation.
All of this means that prayer is a vital part of our work at CCM. It sustains us in all that we do. If you'd like to be a part of our ministry in praying for the work that we do and the people we work with, you can sign up to our monthly prayer ebulletin here.
Regular Prayer Sessions
There's also prayer in the Wild Goose Drop-In (32 Stapleton Road, Easton, Bristol, BS5 0QY) every Monday and Thursday afternoon, and on the third Friday and last Monday of each month. You are very welcome to join us on any of these occasions.
Prayers for Your Use
Here are some prayers for homeless people that you might like to use in private:
"Most merciful God, I pray for the countless homeless men, women, and children who are part of my community this day: Give them strength in the midst of suffering, comfort in the midst of fear, and provision in the midst of great need. Most of all give them an awareness of your deep love for them through your Suffering Servant, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen."
"Jesus, help us to see your face in the eyes of every homeless person we meet so that we may be empowered through word and deed, and through the political means we have, to bring justice and peace for those who are homeless."
